Beachgoers enjoying themselves upon the rocks. |
Half of my friends know about this
spot or has heard of it and the other half has no clue about it. I always get excited
when I’m taking someone for their first time.
The drive to it is sort of sketchy
and walking to the beach shore is scary at night but once you get there, it is
so worth it.
The jetties is located at the most
southeast point of Fort Lauderdale beach, at the waterway entrance to the port of Fort
Lauderdale, and behind condominiums. There is the long pile of rocks that start on
the sand and go out into the water that you can climb and fish off of.
I love this location during day and
night. During the day, it is not crowded, it mostly has locals who are there to
relax and not be bothered. There's something peaceful about seeing the waves hit the rocks
and watching the boats enter and leave the port.
I haven’t snorkeled personally at
this location but I have seen others do it. When I was there last week there
were a lot of jellyfish floating around. There are plenty of shells by the shore.
Sometimes it hurts to walk because of how rocky it could be.
This area of the beach also has one
of the largest stretches of sand on Fort Lauderdale beach. It is definitely a
workout to walk from your car to the water but that’s what makes the place so different and private.
At night it is even more relaxing.
I love to sit on the rocks and watch the boats and the city’s lights. There’s a
nice breeze and the sounds of the water crashing around is so calming.
Night view of Fort Lauderdale from the rocks. |
The entrance to the beach is
through a gate between two buildings which is extremely dark when you walk
through at night. At night, there are also a few wanderers here and there.
I love this spot and was sort of
hesitant about writing this post because I don’t want everyone to know about
it. But it definitely deserves some recognition so there you go. You're welcome!
With no lifeguards or uptight security, you can do a lot on this beach like pull up your own jetski to the shore. |
