The view of Fort Lauderdale from the plane. |
So
yesterday I arrived in California for my first time. I never traveled west to
any state in the United States before. I’ve always been an East Coast girl. So
I decided to go big or go home and went the most west.
Most of the
day was spent traveling and adjusting to time differences but I want to point
out the differences between the West and East Coasts already.
I couldn’t
help but notice how flat Florida is when I took off from the airport. We really
are at sea level and with our beach erosion problem, its scary knowing that any
big storm can easily wash up the ocean to land.
The view upon entering Ontario International Airport. |
Upon
entering Phoenix (my layover) and California, there was nothing but up and down
elevations of terrain. I was born and raised in Florida so I’m definitely not
used to seeing mountains.
What was
sad to confess was last night I was driving through a residential area and my
ears popped. I didn’t even go up a hill!
It is warm
during the day and cool at night. I’m staying near the Ontario area so there
are mountains all around. It just seems more earthly here compared to the dry
tropical atmosphere of Florida.
I’m here
for another six days and I’m so excited to explore the West Coast beaches. More
to come on that!
